The General Medical Zone Headquarters conducted its 2023 joint disaster response drill
As a disaster-response hospital, the University of Tokushima Hospital conducted a joint disaster response drill with the neighboring Tokushima Prefectural Central Hospital on September 30 (Sat.) to determine whether the disaster response headquarters and the system for receiving patients would function adequately to receive patients in the event of a large-scale disaster.
This year’s drill was a tabletop drill, like last year. The scenario was that a number of injured victims were transported to the University Hospital due to a massive earthquake. A disaster response headquarters was set up and headed by Dr. Shoji Kami, Director of the Hospital, several tasks were performed, such as sorting patients by symptoms at the triage center and coordinating hospital admissions. In addition, a liaison and coordination drill regarding patient transport was also conducted with the Prefectural Central Hospital.
The participating hospital staff took the drills seriously and they identified current issues. The drills reaffirmed the importance of establishing a system for routine awareness of disasters so that the Hospital can respond immediately in the event of an actual disaster.
